3Shape has announced that its TRIOS 6 intraoral scanner has received the European Product Design Award (EPDA) 2025 in the “Industrial/Healthcare: Medical Products” category.

In its award citation, the EPDA jury praised TRIOS 6 for combining advanced functionality with refined Danish design. The scanner’s pen-grip form was recognised for reflecting the precision of its technology while offering excellent ergonomics, while the new blue metallic finish was noted for introducing a modern aesthetic rarely seen in dental equipment. The accompanying aluminium POD, designed to securely house the scanner, was also highlighted for its craftsmanship.

Commenting on the recognition, Jacob Vishof Paulsen, chief executive officer of 3Shape, said: “We are delighted to see the TRIOS 6 intraoral scanner recognised with the European Product Design Award. This honour reflects the innovation and dedication behind our products, as well as our commitment to combining engineering excellence with design to support high-quality patient care. TRIOS 6 is a transformative solution that not only advances intraoral scanning performance but also adds strong aesthetic value to the dental practice.”

Advanced scanning technology

Launched in Mar 2025, TRIOS 6 introduces hyperspectral technology, enabling the simultaneous capture of data from white, fluorescent and near-infrared light sources. Compared with previous generations of 3Shape scanners, TRIOS 6 delivers up to 110% higher scan resolution, providing the highest scan quality achieved by the company to date.

Diagnostic support with Dx Plus

TRIOS 6 also supports diagnostic assistance through 3Shape’s AI-driven Dx Plus software, which analyses intraoral scan data to help clinicians objectively identify key oral health conditions. Results are presented as interactive 3D visualisations that can be shared chairside and transferred to the 3Shape DentalHealth mobile app, supporting patient understanding and informed treatment discussions.

The EPDA recognition adds to a long list of accolades for the TRIOS range. Over the past decade, 3Shape’s TRIOS intraoral scanners have received widespread international recognition, including four Red Dot Design Awards and the Cellerant Best of Class Technology Award for 12 consecutive years.
