Dr. Frank Nia’s journey into dentistry began with a personal connection rather than a career plan. After moving to Atlanta in 1998, he met his future wife, Dr. Bahar Nia, while studying as an undergraduate at Georgia State University. She was then enrolled in dental school, inspired by her father’s profession. Motivated by her path, Dr. Nia chose dentistry over a career in business management.
He went on to graduate from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 2007, earning both his dental degree and a Master of Science in Education. Dr. Bahar Nia also attended the same institution.
Returning to Atlanta, Dr. Nia partnered with several colleagues, including former classmate Dr. Farid Toub, to establish a dental practice in McDonough. That initial venture expanded rapidly. Over the next 18 years, the partners built and managed 20 dental practices across Metro Atlanta, including the multi-location orthodontic brand Braces Braces. At their peak, the organization included approximately 250 offices and 450 doctors, serving hundreds of thousands of patients.
Dr. Nia, who is licensed in oral and IV sedation in Georgia, later shifted into clinical leadership roles after consolidation. In 2022, after years of coaching and managing dental practices, he and Dr. Toub retired from private practice. The retirement, however, was short-lived.
“We thought we were done,” Dr. Nia said. “But we really missed our patients.”
That realization led to a new chapter focused on a smaller, more personal model of care. In 2023, the pair opened Ponce Dental Studio on Ponce de Leon Avenue in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward, embracing an urban setting and a boutique approach. In the summer of 2025, they expanded with a second location on Maple Drive in Buckhead, closer to their homes and community.
The new dentist clinic reflects a deliberate shift in philosophy. Rather than high-volume operations, Dr. Nia and Dr. Toub emphasize long-term relationships built on trust, respect, and continuity of care. They focus on understanding each patient’s personal, medical, and dental history over decades, not just addressing immediate concerns.
While the practice is equipped with advanced diagnostics, imaging, and modern facilities, Dr. Nia describes the culture as “old-school” when it comes to relationships. Both dentists are active in their community and stress accountability and familiarity with patients beyond the exam room.
Ponce Dental Studio offers family and general dentistry, reconstructive implant dentistry, and cosmetic smile makeovers. The practice also collaborates with specialists as needed, referring patients when appropriate.
Patient comfort is central to the experience. Neither location resembles a traditional dental office. Instead, the clinics feature calming design elements and amenities such as blankets, hot towels, and noise-canceling headphones. According to Dr. Nia, the goal is to create an environment that soothes the senses and helps patients feel at ease from the moment they arrive.
