Wellington has opened its first new dental clinic in Somerset in over a decade, offering both NHS (National Health Service) and private appointments.
The clinic, run by Dentistry For You, is part of NHS Somerset’s plan to improve dental services across the county. Two further clinics are expected to open soon, in Chard and Crewkerne.
The clinic, located on the Lomore Industrial Estate in Tornedale, has already received nearly 4,000 appointments, temporarily suspending the waiting list.
Dentistry For You’s general manager, Nadim Harunani, said 400 patients have already called to schedule appointments, emphasizing that while the NHS provides care, some cosmetic treatments are performed privately.
Local councillor Gideon Amos welcomed the clinic’s opening, calling it an important step in restoring NHS dental services in the area.
Heather Babb, one of the first patients to be treated at the clinic, expressed relief at finally being able to access NHS care locally after struggling to afford private treatment.
Sukaina Kassam, Head of Primary Care for NHS Somerset, stressed that while one clinic cannot meet all local needs, it marks an important milestone in expanding access to dental care.
Dentistry For You Operations Manager Elizabeth Fernandez added that the clinic not only creates local jobs but also strengthens the reach of NHS dental services in Somerset.
The clinic does not accept walk-ins; patients must book an appointment in advance.
