Invisalign Maker Sees Fresh Price-Target Cuts as Mizuho Trims Outlook to $170

Mizuho analyst Steven Valiquette maintained his “Outperform” rating on Align Technology (ALGN) but lowered his price target from $210 to $170, a 19% reduction as the analyst re-examines the clear aligner market.

This follows a series of adjustments from other firms. Jefferies downgraded ALGN to “Hold” and lowered its price target to $140, while Evercore ISI lowered its price target to $160 but maintained its “Outperform” rating.

The market is also still fresh in the memory of several July corrections: Stifel, Wells Fargo, and Piper Sandler all lowered their target prices in late July, reducing previously high valuations as investors reassessed growth expectations for Invisalign and its related businesses.

Analysts generally remain optimistic. Consensus data indicates that the average target price from multiple analysts suggests significant upside from current levels, while some valuation models, including GuruFocus’ GF Valuation Model, continue to posit fair value well above the current price, highlighting the discrepancy between cautious sell-side sentiment and certain long-term valuations.

Align, best known for its Invisalign clear aligners and iTero intraoral scanner, dominates the clear aligner market.

The company states that Invisalign can treat approximately 90% of malocclusions; over 230,000 dental professionals have completed Invisalign training, and the system has treated millions of patients since its approval in 1998.

These fundamental factors help explain why many brokerages have maintained bullish ratings while lowering their short-term target prices. (Company and market data are provided above.)

Investors should expect continued analyst activity as Align reports earnings and the clear aligner competitive landscape evolves. Short-term price targets may fluctuate, but the combination of maintaining Buy/Outperform ratings and lowering targets reflects the analyst’s effort to balance near-term risks and the company’s market position.
