The American Dental Association has presented three new standards on endodontic irrigants and data sets, according to a Feb. 19 news release from the organization.
Here are seven things to know about the new standards:
- Standard No. 216 classifies endodontic irrigants and medicaments that are used temporarily in orthograde endodontic procedures.
- The standard specifies requirements and test methods to determine conformity for the irrigants and medicaments. It also includes requirements for information and instructions for packaging.
- Standard No. 1084 defines the elements that constitute the reference core data set of the common electronic dental record.
- Health information system vendors can receive a list of pertinent data sets from the electronic dental record to internally map information for their own proprietary dental information system’s data scheme.
- Standard No. 1120-3 creates a uniform framework for defining dental plan coverage information. The framework aims to create clarity, consistency and interoperability.
- The standard includes the data required to properly describe a dental insurance offering, such as covered benefits, cost-sharing structure and administrative details.
- The three new standards are available for review and comment by March 22.
