Align Technology has announced the commercial availability of its Invisalign system with mandibular advancement and occlusal blocks in Singapore. The solution is designed to support treatment of Class II skeletal and dental malocclusions by advancing the mandible while simultaneously aligning the teeth.

The new clear aligner product incorporates integrated solid occlusal blocks, which provide durability and enable vertical opening. According to the company, this allows for earlier advancement of the mandible in cases such as skeletal Class II with deep bite, improving treatment efficiency.

The system is intended for growing patients aged 10–16 in the late mixed or early permanent dentition stages. By using the patient’s natural growth potential during pre-adolescence and adolescence, the system aims to address mandibular retrusion while enhancing facial aesthetics and functional outcomes.

Class II malocclusion, which occurs when the lower jaw is positioned too far back in relation to the upper jaw, affects an estimated 30–45% of malocclusion cases globally. If left untreated, it may result in aesthetic, functional and health challenges.

Key clinical features of the new system include:

  • Combined treatment: The system reduces the need for multiple appliances, treating Class II malocclusions and tooth misalignment in a single process. The occlusal blocks are constructed using laser welding to maintain structural rigidity throughout the treatment and support early initiation of the mandibular advancement phase, particularly in deep bite or Class II Division 2 cases.
  • Patient comfort and compliance: The aligners are made from patented SmartTrack™ material. Studies indicate that patient discomfort with functional appliances may impact adherence to wear time and treatment outcomes.
  • Predictable tooth movement: The system integrates SmartTrack material, SmartForce features, and SmartStage technology. Attachments may also be placed on teeth underneath the occlusal blocks to support levelling and prevent unwanted movements.

“This latest innovation reflects Align’s commitment to enhancing the Invisalign system’s capabilities and supports the ongoing advancement of clear aligners in digital orthodontics,” said Sreelakshmi Kolli, executive vice president, chief product and digital officer at Align Technology.

Dr Mitra Derakhshan, executive vice president, chief clinical officer, global treatment planning and clinical services, added: “The integration of occlusal blocks provides improved mandibular engagement and bite opening, making it a versatile solution for a range of Class II malocclusion cases.”

The system is currently available to Invisalign-trained practitioners in Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Hong Kong, and India. Rollout in additional Asia-Pacific markets is planned for later in 2025. It joins the company’s broader portfolio for growing patients, which includes the Invisalign Palatal Expander System and Invisalign First.
