This year’s Practice Administrator of the Year recipient relates how AADOM has given her valuable tools, education, peer support, and acknowledgement of a job well done

Remember the thrill of seeing an “A” on your report card? Everyone appreciates recognition. Praise from peers is especially meaningful and can be an incentive to reach even higher goals. Plus, it certainly makes going to work every day more pleasant. Just ask Emily Estrella, an office manager and financial care coordinator at Katy Trail Dental in Dallas, TX. Estrella was recently named the 2023 Practice Administrator of the Year by the American Association of Dental Office Management (AADOM) at its annual conference, AADOM 2023, held this year September 7–9 in Orlando, FL.
“This award means that I’m growing personally and professionally,” Estrella shared. “It means a lot to me to be recognized for the growth that I’ve had with both my practice and AADOM. It’s exciting and nerve-wracking all at the same time!”
A Supportive Community
Finding a community of peers who face the same daily challenges is crucial for practice success. AADOM fits the bill, providing support, education, and resources from a community of professionals that knows firsthand the everyday responsibilities of dental office management.
“What I like best about AADOM is that it’s a community and everyone’s very supportive,” Estrella explained. “There will always be someone who will have the answer to your question or has been through the same experience you’re going through.”

Dental Distinction Program
Estrella points to multiple avenues of support, including local AADOM chapters and social media groups, along with an extensive library of CE courses, a yearly national conference featuring motivating CE presentations and over 100 vendors and exhibits, as well as vast networking opportunities. AADOM also offers the Dental Distinction Program, the only continuing education series for practice management professionals that offers 3 tiers of professional designations. Estrella, who earned the Fellowship (FAADOM) distinction, believes it is the expansive roster of CE courses that has had the biggest impact on her ability to achieve the prestigious annual award.
“AADOM’s educational classes make it easy to keep the drive alive and stay motivated, and it’s very comforting to know you’re doing the right thing for your patients and practice,” she added.
