Materials and equipment company Shofu Dental has launched a hybrid composite formulated to minimize polymerization shrinkage and shrinkage stress for all classes of restorations. Beautifil II LS (low shrink) demonstrates volumetric shrinkage of 0.85%, compared with 2% to 5% of currently available composites, and polymerization shrinkage stress of 2.72 megapascals (MPa), according to the company. Premier Dental has introduced a new bioactive resin pit-and-fissure sealant. BioCoat is a heavily filled resin sealant that protects against marginal gaps by offering low-polymerization shrinkage. The product can be light-cured. The sealant is designed to continuously release fluoride and remineralization ions through the company’s patented SmartCap technology. Dental supply manufacturer Young Innovations has acquired American Eagle Instruments. American Eagle manufacturers dental hand instruments and related supplies. The company’s products will continue to be manufactured in Montana. Young announced that Brad Heckerman, American Eagle’s founder and CEO, will join Young on a consulting basis. The transaction price was not disclosed.

Can fluoride varnish prevent demineralization of teeth following interproximal reduction?
