Dental burs are are the rotary cutting instrument with cutting heads of various shapes and two or more sharp-edged blades. Here are various types of dental burs that can be used in Endodontics.
Round Bur
Size 2(ISO 010), size 4(ISO 014) and size 6(ISO 018) are used to lift the roof off the pulp chamber and eliminate overhanging dentin.
Endo Access Bur
Endo Access Bur‘s tip matches round bur sizes for initial penetration while its diamond shaft flares the pulp chamber. The cutting surface of the Endo Access Bur is 10mm. The total length is 21mm.
Safe Ended Diamond
Bur with a non-cutting tip is used to taper and smoothen the access cavity preparation.
Endo-Z Bur
Endo-Z Bur, with its long, tapered shape, creates a funnel for easier access in the pulp chamber. The rounded, non-cutting safe-end tip prevents penetration of the pulp chamber floor or the root canal walls. It is made of high quality tungsten carbide with a distinctive gold shank for easy identification. The cutting surface length is 9mm. The total length is 22mm.
TransMetal Bur
With its extra-fine crosscut shape, the TransMetal Bur is designed to remove an old amalgam filling or to cut through porcelain fused to metal crowns without shattering the porcelain or breaking the bur. The cutting surface length is 5mm. The total length is 19mm.
LN Bur
Its design & small size (006) allows for deep drilling alongside posts or broken instruments for easier removal and for locating small canals in roots. The LN Bur is available in one length of 28mm.
Multi-Purpose Bur
The Maillefer Multi-Purpose Bur is a versatile instrument made from Tungsten Carbide. The bur is excellent for a variety of procedures including:
- Initial endodontic access
- Sectioning of impacted molars
- Cutting of teeth at root level
- Root separation and amputation of broken root
Rose Head Bur
It is used to lift the roof of the pulp chamber and to eliminate the dentinal overhangs.
Mueller Bur
It appears similar to gates glidden bur, but have a round carbide tip instead of the non-cutting tip of the gates glidden bur.
Extendo Bur
Bur allows for deep drilling alongside posts or broken instruments.
Excavabur
The Excavabur is a round bur which is used for the excavation of carious dentin. The blade geometry has high cutting efficiency, excellent material evacuation and permits a distinctive tactile differentiation between healthy and diseased dentin. Visibility of the operating field is enhanced by a reduction of the neck size.
