Dentists who are licensed in California should order compliant forms from companies shown on the Department of Justice’s list of approved security prescription printers. Compliant forms have security features, including a 12-character serial number and a barcode linked to records in CURES, the state’s prescription drug monitoring database.
Also beginning on Jan. 1, California dentists will be required to stop writing paper prescriptions for schedule II-V substances for patients insured by Medicare Part D or Medicare Advantage. Only electronic prescriptions will be accepted for these patients.
