Centerville Clinic Breaks Ground on New Donora Location to Enhance Community Healthcare

Centerville Clinic officially held a groundbreaking ceremony at its new location at 570 California Avenue on Wednesday, marking a new chapter in its service to the Donora community.

Founded in 1955, Centerville Clinic now comprises 13 medical offices and clinics, five dental clinics, and 10 behavioral health sites, serving approximately 40,000 patients across Fayette, Greene, and Washington counties. It has earned local and national recognition for its high-quality services.

As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and a nonprofit community health organization, Centerville provides comprehensive primary care, dental, and mental health services to a diverse population.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Chief Operating Officer Ben Neal stated that community health centers are a vital healthcare provider for more than 30 million urban and rural residents in the United States. Centerville, the fifth-largest community health center in Pennsylvania, is committed to providing access to healthcare regardless of ability to pay.

He emphasized that the new clinic reflects its commitment to Donora families and is co-governed by a board of directors comprised of patients to ensure equitable and efficient service delivery.

Since Dr. Dimitri Petro joined the clinic in 2019, Centerville Clinic has been deeply rooted in the Donora community. Dr. Petro began practicing in Donora in 1963 and retired in 2021.

Currently, Dr. Kimberly Hozdick, CRNP, continues to provide medical services to local residents. Dr. Petro expressed his gratitude for the clinic’s continued roots in Donora, despite its new building.

The new clinic, featuring five exam rooms and a dedicated laboratory, replaces the existing location at 718 McKean Street. CEO Barry Nicolay explained that the renovation will comprehensively upgrade the building’s facilities, including accessibility and energy system improvements, to better meet the diverse needs of the community.

The project, designed by Kulak-George Architects and constructed by MacBracey, has received support from community leaders and stakeholders. Donora City Council members and Republican Pennsylvania State Representatives Carmela Bartolotta and Bud Cook also attended the event.

Councilman Bartolotta noted that with the community’s aging population, having convenient, high-quality medical facilities nearby is particularly important for residents.

Medical Director Dr. Daniel Holt shared his experiences in Donora, expressing his deep gratitude for the clinic’s professionalism and the trust of its patients.

Board Chairman Joseph Yablonski stated that the Centerville team looks forward to continuing to serve the Donora area. Nicolet concluded, “Health brings hope, and hope accomplishes all things. May Donora be healthy and full of hope.”
