Centrix has announced the release of SilverSense SDF, a blue-tinted 38% silver diamine fluoride solution that is FDA cleared as a professional-use tooth desensitiser. As a desensitiser, SilverSense SDF forms insoluble precipitates with calcium or phosphate in the dentinal tubules to block nerve impulses.

According to the company, silver diamine fluoride has been used internationally for decades due to its antimicrobial, desensitising, and remineralising properties. SilverSense SDF aims to become a standard component of preventive-restorative armamentarium as it alleviates hypersensitivity and allows patient to comfortably wait for restorative treatment. The product’s blue-tint increases visibility during application.
SilverSense SDF comes in a 5mL dropper bottle that dispenses one 30μL drop at a time and is available in two package sizes: a single-bottle Standard Kit and a three-bottle Clinic Kit. The application reportedly simple, fast and painless for the patient, needing 1-2 drops of the solution to treat up to five teeth, meaning SilverSense SDF is efficient and cost-effective.
Moreover, the non-invasive procedure requires no drilling and no anesthetic and is suitable for use with pediatric and adult patients. The product also hardens softened dentin which allows a restoration to be placed on top.
