Around 400 children in Ocho Rios, St. Ann, received free medical and dental care during a back-to-school outreach organized by Sandals Ochi Beach Resort.
The initiative, held on Monday, August 4, at Turtle River Park, was made possible through collaboration with the Sandals Foundation, the North East Regional Health Authority (NERHA), and the Urban Development Corporation (UDC).
Lyndsay Isaacs, Regional Public Relations Manager at Sandals Ocho Rios, told JIS News that nine doctors were present to provide a range of medical services.
“We also had a dental team on-site,” Isaacs said. “About nine dental professionals offered cleanings for the children.”
Children received hygiene kits containing a toothbrush, toothpaste, and dental floss. They also took part in oral hygiene sessions and were given back-to-school supplies after completing their check-ups.
While waiting, the children had time to enjoy the playground and open space at the park.
Isaacs noted that the event provided a significant financial break for many families.
“Medical care is expensive, and many parents were grateful for the support,” she said. “This service helped ease their financial burden.”
She added that more charitable events are planned for August.
“Starting August 11, a dental team from Great Shape will be at Ocho Rios High School offering free dental fillings, cleanings, and extractions,” Isaacs said. “We’ll also host another back-to-school medical outreach at the St. Ann’s Bay Parish Library on the last Wednesday in August.”
