The Curaden stand (C050/D059) in Hall 5.2 is attracting lively interest at the International Dental Show (IDS). The Swiss oral health specialist is presenting a genuine innovation: Samba, a fully automatic robotic toothbrush that enables thorough and effortless toothbrushing for those with physical or mental disabilities. In the following interview, Ludwig Popp of Curaden Germany talks about how Samba works and the benefits it offers.

Mr Popp, what inspired the groundbreaking Samba toothbrush?
As you know, we maintain close contact with dentists and their practice teams. From talking to them, we know exactly what difficulties people with disabilities experience in performing oral care. Because Curaden’s mission is to improve oral health worldwide for everyone, we developed Samba, a solution that makes daily dental care much easier for people with disabilities and gives them more self-confidence.
How exactly does Samba work, and what makes this toothbrush so special?
Samba is a robotic toothbrush that combines innovative cleaning technology with precision-manufactured micro-brushes and oscillating movements to clean every tooth gently and thoroughly. In a single brushing, the 20,460 ultra-fine and gentle bristles effectively remove plaque from the front, back and occlusal surfaces of the teeth, ensuring a highly pleasant and time-saving cleaning experience with minimal effort.
How long does it take to brush the whole mouth, and what specific advantages does Samba offer in everyday care?
Samba cleans all the teeth in just 60 seconds—30 seconds per jaw. This makes oral care a pleasant and stress-free experience for users, carers and relatives. With just a press of a button, the cleaning process runs completely automatically. Moreover, the mouthpiece is so elastic that it can adapt to any jaw size—making it suitable for all adults and young people aged 13 and over.
Could you give a brief summary of Samba?
This special toothbrush has been developed for people with physical or mental disabilities to give them more independence in their daily oral care. At the same time, it makes it much easier for nursing staff to maintain their patients’ oral hygiene routines. Samba means more independence, a simplified oral care routine, and thorough, fast and effective cleaning. As a result, it makes a significant contribution to improving oral health and boosts users’ self-confidence.
