As part of its collaboration with the FDI World Dental Federation, Dentsply Sirona joined in recognising the Hong Kong Dental Association (HKDA) with the “Most Educational Activity of the Year” award at the 2025 World Dental Congress in Shanghai.

The award, announced on 9 Sep, was part of this year’s World Oral Health Day (WOHD) campaign. It recognised efforts to raise public awareness and improve oral health literacy. Dr Flora Chan received the award on behalf of HKDA.

The 2025 WOHD theme, “A Happy Mouth is a Happy Mind,” highlighted the connection between oral health and mental well-being. The jury commended HKDA for organising lectures and workshops in collaboration with the Hong Kong Special Care Dentistry Association across Mar and Apr 2025. These covered topics including the link between periodontal disease and Alzheimer’s prevention, minimal intervention dentistry techniques, and approaches to caring for patients with complex medical or behavioural needs.

HKDA also launched Oral Health Week 2025, mobilising dentists across Hong Kong to provide free check-ups and promote preventive care. More than 101,000 people took part, underlining the reach and impact of the initiative.

Andrea Frohning, senior vice president and chief human resources officer at Dentsply Sirona, said in a video message during the WOHD ceremony: “The shared commitment FDI and Dentsply Sirona have to improving oral health globally is a powerful uniting force.”

FDI’s newly elected president, Assistant Prof Nikolai Sharkov, also emphasised the value of industry partnerships: “Our collaboration with Dentsply Sirona continues to be a driving force in advancing global oral health. Together, we are not only raising awareness — we are building sustainable, community-driven solutions that increase access to oral health.”
