ECU dental school gets $600K to expand access to care

The East Carolina School of Dental Medicine has received a $593,000 grant to increase sustainability and access to dental services in North Carolina.

The three-year grant invests more than $85,000 in patient care funds and more than $425,000 in salary support for existing and new positions at the school’s community services learning centers, according to a May 1 news release from the university.

The school’s two clinics in western North Carolina provide care to about 3,000 patients each year.

With the funding, an administrative coordinator/practice management position will be created to improve the efficiency and efficacy of the clinics.

The investment is from the Dogwood Health Trust, the release said.
