BRUSSELS — The European Federation of Periodontology (EFP), supported by meridol, has introduced “The Journey to a Healthy Smile” campaign to raise awareness about oral health and the prevention of gingivitis and periodontitis.
This initiative includes educational videos and materials for dental professionals, focusing on identifying and preventing gum disease, the effects of daily habits on oral health, and motivating patients for a healthier lifestyle. Oral diseases like gingivitis and periodontitis affect over 3.6 billion people worldwide, surpassing the prevalence of major non-communicable diseases.
Preventive measures such as regular brushing with fluoride toothpaste, using mouth rinses, and cleaning between teeth can help prevent these conditions. Maintaining a balanced diet, exercising, avoiding tobacco, and managing stress also support overall health.
Prof. William Papaioannou of the EFP highlighted the federation’s role in improving patient health. Irina Laura Chivu-Garip from Colgate-Palmolive praised the collaboration, emphasizing its aim to foster long-term healthy habits and advance health literacy.
