Engineers create at-home test to detect early signs of periodontal disease

Andrew Steckl, a distinguished research professor at the university’s College of Engineering and Applied Science, collaborated with Senior Research Associate Daewoo Han to develop the test.

The test uses antibodies that react to endotoxins found in bacteria that can lead to gingivitis, according to a Sept. 7 news release.

Test results were published in the Royal Society of Chemistry journal Sensors and Diagnostics.
