Flexibility in Endodontic Procedures

,Ideal flexibility and fracture resistance in one system help build your practice and keep patients happy, ,As an educator, Dr. Varo Boyer has used multiple rotary endodontic systems in his practice. “The challenges with some of the otherhyflex edm systems I’ve used have always been the combination of strength and flexibility,” he noted. “Some of the older systems I had were very strong and did not separate, but they produced transportation of the canals and ledges.”, ,Some other systems that he has used were very flexible, but also produced instances of file separation, which is an unwelcome complication for both the dentist and the patient. Now, Dr. Boyer uses Coltene’s HyFlex EDM files after finding success with them on multiple cases, including simple anterior, premolar, and curved and complex molar root canals., ,“The features that were most beneficial to me as a general dentist were the use of fewer files, increased cutting efficiency, strength, the flexibility, and the memory of the files,” shared Dr. Boyer., ,Thanks to controlled memory properties, HyFlex EDM files follow the anatomy of the canal, which can significantly reduce the risk of ledging, transportation, and perforation., ,The HyFlex EDM files have a great combination of strength and flexibility that allows Dr. Boyer to navigate challenging cases and canals safely and confidently. They also feature extreme fracture resistance, which makes them more reliable than other instruments., ,The combination of these qualities can help reduce the number of files required for cleaning while preserving anatomy. “Using fewerhyflex edm electrical discharge machining files is beneficial for multiple reasons,” explained Dr. Boyer. “First, it saves a lot of chair time, which means increased efficiency for the practitioner and reduced discomfort for the patient. By needing fewer files, the possibility of complications such as separation, transportation of the canal, or ledging is also reduced.”, ,Dr. Boyer called this file system “a good practice builder,” since the patients are in and out of the chair quicker, with less postoperative discomfort and increased referral rates., ,In addition to the flexibility and the strength of the HyFlex EDM files, Dr. Boyer’s favorite feature is the multi-colored surface, which allows for easier visual inspection and identification of twisted or damaged areas in case that happens. “By being able to identify this quicker, I am able to assess file replacement necessity quicker and prevent any potential complications,” he explained., ,Dr. Boyer has used the HyFlex EDM files on complex cases and enjoyed them immensely. “It was quite easy for me to follow the canals, and because of their strength and cutting efficiency, I was able to negotiate, shape, and instrument all the canals timely and safely,” he concluded. “I did not have any breakage, even after using the files multiple times and in dilacerated roots.”
