DELAWARE — Hundreds of seniors across Delaware received free dental care this spring through a mobile clinic initiative organized by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Delaware in partnership with United Concordia Dental.
The clinics operated between April 22 and May 1, making stops in several communities, including Dover, Lewes, Millsboro, New Castle, and Rehoboth Beach. The services were offered at no cost to Highmark Medicare Advantage members.
Each clinic provided critical dental care, including exams, x-rays, cleanings, and fluoride treatments. For seniors needing additional attention, referrals were made to in-network dental providers to ensure continued care.
Tom Fitzpatrick, president of Commercial Business for Highmark Health Plans, praised the effort’s success.
“We are incredibly pleased with the positive response to these free dental clinics,” he said. “These events allowed us to directly address the oral health needs of our Medicare Advantage members and connect them with valuable resources for ongoing care.”
Dr. Roosevelt Allen, Chief Dental Officer at United Concordia Dental, underscored the importance of oral health in maintaining overall wellness.
“Taking good care of your teeth and gums can lead to better oral and overall health at every life stage,” Dr. Allen said.
“That’s why we were pleased to partner with Highmark to bring these essential dental services to seniors in Delaware at no cost and help them be their healthiest.”
This outreach highlights a growing effort to improve access to dental care for aging populations. Many older adults face barriers to oral health services, making programs like this vital to their well-being.
