Nearly 115,000 residents in Philadelphia remain uninsured, and many more face challenges affording healthcare. This weekend, a national nonprofit organization is stepping up to provide much-needed assistance.
Remote Area Medical (RAM) will hold a free two-day clinic offering dental, vision, and general medical services at the School of the Future, located at 4021 Parkside Avenue. The event runs Saturday and Sunday, August 16 and 17.
No insurance, identification, or appointment is required. Services will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.
In partnership with DentMed Inc., the clinic will provide dental cleanings, fillings, extractions, and X-rays. Vision services include eye exams, prescriptions, and on-site eyeglasses. Women’s health screenings and general medical exams will also be available.
“Millions of people lack access to essential healthcare,” said Sandra Hall, Clinic Coordinator at RAM. “Our mission is to close that gap by offering free dental, vision, and medical care to those who need it most.”
The parking lot opens at midnight on Friday, August 15, where patients will receive instructions upon arrival. Clinic doors will open daily at 6 a.m. and will close once capacity is reached.
Because of limited time, patients may have to choose between dental or vision care, though general medical exams will be offered alongside both. Organizers strongly recommend arriving early, especially for dental services.
Schedules may change due to weather conditions, volunteer availability, or other unforeseen factors. Note that Sunday’s operations will run on a shortened timeline.
This free clinic offers a vital opportunity for residents of West Philadelphia to access essential health services without financial or insurance barriers.
