Dental Protection has announced the appointment of Dr George Wright as the new dental director.
Dr Wright succeeds Raj Rattan, who has recently been appointed the first global adviser at the Medical Protection Society (MPS), of which Dental Protection is a key part. Both will take up their new roles in Apr 2026.
Dr Wright qualified from the University of Sheffield, UK. After completing foundation training, he entered general practice within the NHS before moving into private practice. He joined Dental Protection in 2016 as a part-time adviser and has since held several roles, including dentolegal consultant, senior dental educator, and most recently deputy dental director for the past three years.
He will be familiar to many across Asia, having undertaken three stakeholder visits in 2025. During this time, he delivered presentations at the College of Dental Surgeons of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Dental Association, and the University of Hong Kong. He also spoke at the Singapore Dental Association’s Ethics Forum 2025 and presented at the International Medical University and Universiti Malaya in Malaysia.
Dr Wright also serves as a board member of the MPS Foundation, a global not-for-profit research initiative dedicated to improving patient safety, reducing risk, and enhancing the wellbeing of healthcare professionals.
In his new role, he will lead engagement with dental professionals and organisations worldwide, while representing members’ interests and ensuring they remain central to Dental Protection’s work.
Dr Wright said: “I am delighted to be stepping into the role of dental director at such an important time for the organisation. Our ambitious strategy reflects the values I most appreciate about working at Dental Protection, and I look forward to helping expand the support and assistance we provide to dental professionals globally.”
Raj Rattan, incoming MPS global adviser, said: “I have known George for many years and offer my warmest congratulations as he takes up the role of dental director.”
Dr Rob Hendry, MPS chief member officer, added: “This is an exciting time for Dental Protection. George brings extensive experience and great enthusiasm to the role, and it is equally positive news that Raj will continue at MPS as a senior global ambassador, working closely with dental members and stakeholders worldwide.”
