,Infused with Ultradent’s Resin Particle Match technology, Transcend composite’s Universal Body shade blends with almost any tooth color anywhere in the mouth—no blocker required, ,
If your supply shelves are overflowing with multiple composite shades and you’re tired of tossing out expired or partially used material, you’re certainly not alone. While an organized product inventory may seem like a pipe dream, Ultradent’s newly released universal composite, Transcend, can help you get there.,
That’s because with just one Universal Body shade, Transcend can be used to complete most restorations—and it’s all thanks to Ultradent’s patented Resin Particle Match technology. The balanced refractive indices between resin and filler particles from this technology, combined with a carefully optimized tuning between translucency and opacity, allow Transcend composite to blend with most surrounding dentition with just one shade and without the use of a blocker.,
“This is a very complete system, and I love it,” shared Gary Findley, DDS, in Salt Lake City, UT. “It’s not really a universal system if you have to use a blocker, and with the Transcend system, I never need one. This has streamlined
my supply shelves and my entire restorative workflow. I am using it in well over 90% of my restorations!”,
A Versatile Composite that Goes Anywhere,
Transcend can be used for both anterior and posterior restorations anywhere in the mouth, including both direct and indirect
restorations, and Dr. Findley has found it particularly useful in cases with deep amalgam staining.,
“I’ve done some restorations with some very dark amalgam tattooing—especially if I’m removing an old silver restoration, the
dentin underneath can be very stained,” explained Dr. Findley. “In these cases, we build up with the Universal Body shade, no
blocker is needed, and it looks fantastic.”,
For restorations that demand a higher level of esthetics, Transcend also includes a simple shade system of 4 dentin and 2 enamel shades. “Once in a while, I need to do some layering for a very demanding cosmetic case, and Transcend has those additional shades as well,” Dr. Findley shared. “For example, in an anterior case such as a diastema closure where there’s no surrounding tooth structure, it’s very handy to have a dentin shade that can be placed behind it, this way it has something to draw color from.”,
Consistent Handling, High Strength, & Long-Lasting Gloss,
Clinicians will find that Transcend provides ideal handling, allowing for expert manipulation. Additionally, the composite is also
easy to sculpt thanks to its ideal working consistency.,
“I love the consistency of Transcend because it adapts itself into the preparation very, very easily,” said Dr. Findley. “You’re not going to be worrying about voids when you’re condensing it, and it has enough body to it that it holds its shape. When I’m tapping in a little occlusal anatomy, it doesn’t slump.”,
Along with a long-lasting gloss, Transcend features a high compressive strength, is exceptionally wear-resistant, can withstand the forces of mastication, and provides predictable, consistent results.,
“Every composite handles differently,” Dr. Findley added, “with some being softer and others more stiff. So, it’s good to have
consistency with what you’re working with instead of pulling out different products that may handle differently. Since the Transcend system includes dentin and enamel shades, it’s all the same formulation of materials, which makes handling consistent and predictable.”,
Go Ahead and Bleach!,
Dr. Findley pointed out that many patients are happy to hear they can proceed with bleaching treatments without worry that their restorations won’t match their newly whitened teeth.,
“I’ve seen cases where really dark teeth were restored with Transcend and it was still a perfect match. Even when the rest of the teeth were bleached, everything still matched beautifully with the restored teeth because Transcend is able to draw the color from the surrounding tooth structure very well,” Dr. Findley explained.,
Overall, Transcend is now a “go-to” in his busy restorative workflow, namely due to its superior handling and esthetics.,
“First, I love how it blends, disappears into the tooth structure, and comes in a beautiful Universal Body shade that doesn’t require a blocker,” he said. “Secondly, it’s a complete system that includes dentin and enamel shades for those rare occasions when I want to use a layering technique.”
