Sunstar Americas and MouthWatch Join Forces to Expand AI-Powered Dental Access Across the U.S.
Sunstar Americas, Inc.—the oral health company behind the GUM® brand—has teamed up with Dentistry.One, a virtual-first dental care platform from MouthWatch, Inc., to launch a new initiative called GUM Virtual Care. This collaboration aims to bring accessible, AI-powered dental support to consumers nationwide through smartphones and 24/7 virtual services.
At the heart of this offering is SmileScan, a digital screening tool developed by Dentistry.One. The tool allows users to upload photos of their teeth using their smartphones. Within minutes, SmileScan scans the images for visible signs of dental concerns like plaque buildup, gum inflammation, and tooth crowding. Access to the tool is available by scanning a QR code included in select GUM products or provided during dental appointments.
Once a user completes the scan, the platform provides a detailed report and suggests next steps. These may include virtual consultations—either live or through photo reviews—with licensed dentists, or referrals to nearby dental providers for in-person care.

In addition to SmileScan, GUM customers will be able to access Dentistry.One’s complete lineup of virtual dental services. These include live video consultations, asynchronous photo evaluations, personalized oral health coaching, and support for coordinating in-person treatments when needed.
