Implant Education

,Through its world-class dental implant training, Aspen Dental is the perfect place for doctors to truly excel at implant dentistry, ,Of the many reasons one might choose to pursue a career in dentistry, the ability to improve someone’s life ranks high on the list. And what better way to do that than implant therapy? After all, studies show that more than 150 million people in the U.S. are at least partially edentulous, and a large number of them go untreated every year., ,“Implants are an unbelievable win across the board,” said Sundeep Rawal, DMD, Senior Vice President of Implant Support Services at Aspen Dental. “But unfortunately, most dental students today get very little experience with implantology.”, ,This is a fact that Aspen Dental has considered carefully. As part of its focus on training and professional development, over 1,400 Aspen Dental providers across the U.S. have received a combination of surgical and restorative implant training through its world-class dental implant training curriculum. Through a comprehensive learning journey, doctors are trained in every aspect of the implant process, from diagnosis to delivery of care., ,“Our implant continuum starts with the very basics of implantology—diagnosis and treatment planning—in an online setting that can be selfpaced,” said Dr. Rawal. “It then ramps up to more involved in-person restorative implant training that’s led by world-class educators, and then culminates with live patient education where doctors learn how to place dental implants on live patients and build confi dence in their clinical skills.”, ,Even the most acclaimed implant training has the potential to fall short if it lacks day-to-day support, which Dr. Rawal says is critical to success. “When you attend a course and learn something new, there’s typically not much support when you go back to the offi ce on Monday morning,” he noted. “That static educational experience, from lectures to live patient training, is only half the recipe for success. The other half comes from ongoing support.”, ,When tackling implant cases, Aspen Dental providers have access to doctors and world-leading experts who provide mentorship and clinical guidance. But dentists don’t work in a silo by themselves, Dr. Rawal noted. They have an entire team around them that needs to be trained and upskilled, too. “We’ve built a robust support system across all facets of implantology so that doctors can find success in this and really make an impactful change in their patients’ lives.”, ,With a growing patient demand for implant therapies, Aspen Dental hopes to train several hundred more doctors in both surgical implant procedures and restorative implantology by the end of 2023., ,“I am hard-pressed to find another organization that has invested as much time, effort, and resources into creating something special for doctors to partake in,” Dr. Rawal concluded.
