Improving Access in More Ways Than One

Wrist and hand strain, awkward positioning, accidental tugging—being tethered to a handpiece cord is no fun for anyone. Enter cord-free options, such as the new ACCLEAN Cordless Hygiene Handpiece, which can help practitioners access all areas of the mouth more easily and effectively than their corded counterparts.

ACCLEAN Helps Treat Those in Need

But for some patients, being tied to one place isn’t optional. Homebound individuals need dental care just like everyone else, and Dana Yumul, RDHAP, is on a mission to prove that. Four years ago, she started a mobile dental hygiene practice dedicated to treating disabled and homebound patients across California’s Alameda and Contra Costa counties.

“My mom, a 2-time cancer survivor now living with multiple sclerosis, inspired me to start mobile hygiene. She couldn’t get to a dental office, and I realized so many others were in the same situation,” Yumul explained. “This practice has transformed my career into a mission—bringing care directly to those who would otherwise go without.”

Among the many tools packed in Yumul’s traveling hygienist bag is the ACCLEAN Cordless Hygiene Handpiece. With a brushless motor, 6 speed settings, and high-output torque to remove tough stains and maintain speed under pressure, the handpiece is designed to reduce strain and enhance ease of use.

“The ergonomic, lightweight design has been a game changer—it reduces strain on my hands while making the experience smoother and comfortable for patients,” she said. “I also love that it has a backup rechargeable battery.”

Available with an optional wireless foot pedal, the handpiece’s removable, autoclavable nose cone works with virtually all DPAs.

“In mobile care, I’m often working in living rooms, bedrooms, or community spaces,” Yumul added. “Cordless tools make it possible to provide efficient, safe, and stress-free dental care without worrying about outlets or cords.”

Care That Won’t Quit

Yumul’s passion for serving the underserved doesn’t end with her mobile hygiene practice. During the pandemic, she founded an on-the-road nonprofit called Sweet Smile Foundation, which provides children in low-income areas and rural communities with much-needed preventive dental services.

“Henry Schein has been instrumental in helping me grow both my practice and nonprofit,” Yumul said. “With their support, I’ve been able to expand care into migrant camps, senior homes, and schools, reaching hundreds of patients who might otherwise be overlooked.”
