The Iowa Dental Board has sanctioned Jeffrey Rubel, DDS, for allegedly overdiagnosing patients, KCRG reported Feb. 9.
Dr. Rubel, of Coral West Dental in Coralville, Iowa, was accused in January of overdiagnosing at least 11 patients with periodontal disease. The board reportedly received several complaints from patients who were diagnosed by Dr. Rubel with severe periodontal disease, but later told by other dental professionals that their teeth were healthy.
As part of a settlement with the dental board, Dr. Rubel agreed to be placed on probation for two years and take education and ethics courses.
“Dr. Rubel cooperated fully with the Iowa Dental Board’s investigation and agreed to resolve the matter under a settlement agreement without any admission of wrongdoing or guilt,” the practice said in a statement to KCRG. “As part of his ongoing commitment to professional development and quality patient care, he is participating in chart review and additional educational activities under the terms of the agreement.”
