Japanese Dental Psychologists Host Fear-Free Dental Seminar in Nagasaki

In July 2025, the Japanese Dental Psychologists Association (represented by Satomi Ogihara) successfully held a dental psychology and customer service seminar at Shiho Dental Hospital in Nagasaki City, Nagasaki Prefecture (director Shiho Fukumoto). The event aims to create a more secure and warm treatment environment for patients with dental phobia.

The seminar was jointly presented by Satomi Ogihara, the association representative, and Aya Nagai, a dental psychologist lecturer, who gave an in-depth explanation of “psychological reception skills that can be immediately applied in the dental field”.

Reception operation demonstrations and mutual practice sessions were also arranged on the day to help participants turn theory into practice. Participants actively participated and generally recognized this reception method that focuses on patient feelings and psychological care.

What is dental psychotherapy?

Dental psychotherapy is a method that is different from traditional reception. It emphasizes respecting the individual differences of each patient, cultivating a sense of security, trust and self-esteem, and truly understanding the patient’s emotions and needs.

Its core lies in “dental-specific treatment”, which is not only committed to alleviating the patient’s psychological pressure, but also effectively reducing the fear during the visit.
