MIS Global Conference 2024 delivers scientific programme aimed at advancing implant dentistry

The fifth edition of the MIS Global Conference took place in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, and attracted over 1,500 attendees

The bi-annual MIS Global Conference is a notable event in the field of implant dentistry, attracting an international list of speakers and participants. Known for its scientific programme, the fifth edition of the global conference was developed in collaboration with a scientific committee led by Prof Lior Shapira, Prof Mariano Sanz Alonso, and Prof Nitzan Bichacho.

Participants had the opportunity to choose among several pre-conference hands-on workshops, including one given by Tali Chackartchi and Ignacio Sanz Sanchez on “Guided Surgery for Advanced Users – Treatment Plan as the Key to Success.”

On day one, the conference programme featured a series of three sessions that each delved into key challenges or emerging trends within implant dentistry and included moderated discussions:

  • • Session 1: The Challenge of the Smile Zone – Addressing aesthetic complexities.
  • • Session 2: Biological Complications: Prevention or Handling Strategies – Offering practical insights into managing biological risks.
  • • Session 3: Beyond Implants: Pioneering Future Trends – Exploring bone regeneration, tissue engineering and cell therapy.

Among the many aspects of the conference was the streaming of a live surgical demonstration of a full arch placement of six implants on day two of the event. The surgery was performed by Dr Stavros Pelekanos and offered attendees the opportunity to observe the latest techniques in practice. This was complemented by sessions on enhancing tissue stability and integrating digital workflows into daily practice, reinforcing the conference’s mission to advancing clinical excellence.

MIS: Commitment to innovation, clinical excellence and affordability

“MIS’ long-standing reputation for delivering high-quality implant solutions was on display during the conference.” said Tony Susino, group vice-president of global implant and prosthetic solutions at Dentsply Sirona. “MIS has been part of the Dentsply Sirona family since 2016 and continues to be strategically important in our portfolio of implant brands. This year’s global conference showcased our commitment to science, and innovation, and reaffirmed our dedication to providing world class peer to peer clinical education for the implant community. MIS delivers quality products at an affordable price and enables dental professionals to deliver excellent care with confidence.”

Clinical case competition

Another highlight of the conference was the clinical case competition. In the spirit of discovery, scientific research and innovation, participants submitted a clinical case in the lead up to the global conference that is evaluated by a special scientific committee for the competition. The committee chose 23 cases to be displayed at the conference and three winners were awarded prizes. Dr Erick Ruben Mota Gonzalez from the Dominican Republic won this year’s first prize for his case. The two second prize recipients were Dr Gerardo José Chacón Ramírez from Venezuela, and Dr Oded Kantzuker from Israel. The third prize was awarded to Dr Bruno Kraft from Brazil.

“Participants in this year’s MIS Global Conference left with practical and evidence-based knowledge in implant dentistry to bring back to their own practices,” said Prof Nitzan Bichacho, member of the conference’s scientific committee. “I am proud of this year’s program not only for its educational components but also for the opportunities to strengthen professional relationships. Those discussions, both formal and informal, are also an important part of exchanging experiences that ultimately move implant dentistry forward in the service of providing our patients with the best possible care.”
