Ebtekar Rah Roshan (ERR) has delivered mobile dental services to the coastal town of Keti Bandar, expanding access to oral healthcare through a comprehensive medical and dental camp held at RHQ Keti Bandar.
The initiative marked the first field deployment of ERR’s newly acquired portable dental unit, allowing chairside dental care to be provided directly within the community. The camp was organised by ERR and Sight Welfare Organisation, in collaboration with Sahil Welfare Association, Shield, and the Pakistan Navy.
According to organisers, the medical camp served 521 patients from the local area, offering a range of medical and dental services. The Dental OPD was a major component of the outreach, screening an estimated 250 to 300 patients and highlighting the region’s significant unmet oral health needs.
Using the portable dental unit, the dental team provided on-site preventive and curative care. Patients with proximal cavities received atraumatic restorative treatment (ART) fillings using glass ionomer cement, while painless extractions were performed for mobile teeth causing discomfort.
Scaling procedures were carried out for patients with calculus buildup, gingivitis, and early-stage periodontitis. Clinicians reported that patients are expected to show noticeable clinical improvement following treatment.
In addition to dental procedures, patients with oral infections, swelling, and ulcers were prescribed appropriate medications. Preventive care was reinforced through the distribution of toothbrushes and toothpaste, alongside education on proper brushing techniques and basic oral hygiene practices. Dental professionals stressed that such education is essential in areas with limited access to routine dental care.
ERR expressed gratitude to volunteers, partner organisations, and supporters for their contributions to the initiative. The organisation noted that continued donor and partner support is vital to expanding mobile dental services and reaching more underserved communities along Pakistan’s coast.
