California has more than 30,000 dentists, nearly double the number in Texas (16,692), the state with the second-largest supply, according to recent data from the American Dental Association. 

Five states have fewer than 500 dentists: Delaware, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont and Wyoming. 

Across the entire U.S., there were 202,485 dentists in 2024 — 181 more than  2023’s tally.
