Personal finance site WalletHub ranked all 50 states and Washington, D.C., across two main categories: dental habits and health and oral health. The rankings were published Jan. 30. 

Data on the number of HPSAs for each state is from the Health Resources & Services Administration, which updates the dashboard daily. 

Here are the number of dental health professional shortage areas in the 10 best states for dental health in 2025:

1. Illinois: 229 dental shortage areas

2. Minnesota: 194 dental shortage areas

3. Wisconsin: 164 dental shortage areas

4. Michigan: 242 dental shortage areas

5. Connecticut: 40 dental shortage areas

6. Idaho: 98 dental shortage areas

7. North Dakota: 67 dental shortage areas

8. Washington, D.C.: 11 dental shortage areas

9. Massachusetts: 55 dental shortage areas

10. Ohio: 164 dental shortage areas
