On the Grind to Create Health & Sustainability

,With a firm foundation in precision manufacturing and innovative products, NSK is poised to bring about healthier mouths—and a healthier planet, sdi timax,At a time when the news is full of stories on issues from climate change to the ongoing pandemic, one company is doing its part to make life better for people around the world. Nearly a century since its founding, dental handpiece powerhouse NSK seeks not only to create new and innovative products for the dental industry, but also to protect the global environment and the health of people around the world., ,How does one company achieve such an ambitious undertaking? By staying on the grind— that is, a literal grind. NSK has been honing its innovative grinding technology since its founding in 1930. It’s the backbone of the manufacturer’s 3 core product groups—high-speed rotary, ultrasound, and micromotor technology. The technology can be found in its lightweight Ti-Max nano series and Z95L contra-angles, the compact and powerful NLZ and NLZ-E electric micromotors for dentists, and the iPiezo engine and Varios2 handpiece, which allow hygienists to easily access and remove hard calculus during cleanings., ,eiichi nakanishi., ,“We will do our best so that we can continue to deliver even more inspiration to everyone and contribute toward people’s happiness and a recycling-oriented society.”
—Eiichi Nakanishi, President and Group CEO of Nakanishi Inc., , ,NSK’s “Create It” campaign is more than just words and promises; it’s an ode to the truth. Throughout its history, NSK’s goal has been to protect beautiful teeth around the world, a feat it has managed to achieve through an ongoing commitment to building trust, partnerships with dental professionals, innovative products made with precise machining technology, sustainability, and a healthier future.,changing the world through creation,For example, to protect the world’s teeth, NSK partners with and listens to dental professionals from every corner of the world to solve clinical challenges— resulting in the creation of high-quality and reliable products that are sold at a reasonable price., ,A key piece of NSK’s vision for the future of dentistry is tackling social issues that affect people worldwide—for example, the issue of “super-aging.” In Japan, where NSK is headquartered, nearly 30% of the population is age 65 and over—a percentage that is expected to increase as we inch closer to the next decade., ,One way to tackle the issue of life expectancy is by adopting green policies and initiatives that foster a healthier global environment. Many dental professionals may not know that in December 2021, NSK began sourcing all power used in its domestic production facility from green energy, including solar power. With the goal of becoming fully carbon neutral, this shift marked a major step toward reducing greenhouse gases released through the manufacturer’s supply chain., ,Much of Japan is known for natural beauty—from lavender fi elds and cherry blossoms to ancient temples and white sandy beaches. The NSK factory grounds complement this setting. In addition to sourcing 100% green energy for its headquarters, the factory grounds are lined with ponds where carp swim. The water is cleansed throughout the manufacturing process by purification systems that make it clean enough for nature to thrive before being distributed back to surrounding rivers., ,Even before the COVID-19 pandemic put infection control in the spotlight, popular NSK handpieces were equipped with a unique DualDefense mechanism— comprised of a Clean Head System and Anti- Retraction Valve—that prevents wet patient biomaterials from entering the handpiece head and waterline during treatment., ,Some NSK handpieces, including those sold in developing countries, were not fitted with this mechanism. So, at the start of the pandemic, NSK began developing adapters with Anti-Retraction valves that could be retrofitted onto these handpieces, and in just 3 months, the adapters were made available to developing countries struggling with the pandemic., ,From achieving carbon neutrality to swapping plastic for recyclable paper packaging, the next several years will be a time of transformation for the global handpiece manufacturer—just in time for the company to celebrate its centennial anniversary and 100 years of success.
