,A novel approach to PPE design allows for pathogen protection while addressing cost-effectiveness and eco-friendliness, ,
, ,How much does it cost to wash a load of laundry? The answer is not very much—with today’s energy efficient machines, it’s not even a dollar. Now, think about how much it costs—each day—to outfit an entire practice staff with disposable gowns that are discarded and replaced after each patient encounter. You don’t need a calculator to see the difference in cost—it’s many times more than a dollar., ,With ProtectAll PPE washable, resuable gowns, you’ll have a 90% cost savings over what you would spend on disposable gowns. That’s one of the biggest reasons to consider ProtectAll PPE, a less-expensive solution to the everyday dilemma of providing protective clothing for your entire practice., ,
, ,“I wanted to design a gown that wouldn’t impact the environment this way.”,– Hongli Wang, DDS, ,Borne of a desire to keep her staff safe during the pandemic, Hongli Wang, DDS, owner of ProtectAll PPE, searched for a material that could accomplish three very important benchmarks: it had to protect against pathogens, while at the same time, it needed to be cost-effective, and eco-friendly., ,Drawing on her background in dentistry as well as fashion design, Dr. Wang set out to design gowns that are water and fluid resistant, which means they are more protective than cloth gowns. Made of a material similar in composition to tenting and umbrellas, the gowns are protective since water molecules cannot penetrate the material, and pathogen molecules are larger than water. While disposable gowns are protective, they are not washable, and quite expensive since they must be changed after each patient encounter. ProtectAll PPE gowns will retain their protective qualities well after more than 100 washes, and heavily exposed areas, such as sleeves, can be sterilized with a simple alcohol wipe, something that cannot be done with disposable or cloth gowns., ,While protectiveness and cost are both important factors, there is also the eco-friendliness of the ProtectAll PPE gowns. “Just imagine how many gowns are discarded in each office each day after each patient,” Dr. Wang pointed out. “I wanted to design a gown that wouldn’t impact the environment this way.”, ,Even before the pandemic, Dr. Wang provided a washer and dryer in her office so that her staff could leave the office each day in street clothes, with no danger of bringing home pathogens on their clinical clothing—a practice that continues now with the company’s ProtectAll PPE gowns., ,Click here to see how one innovative design addresses three of the top PPE issues confronting today’s medical and dental clinicians: protectiveness, cost-effectiveness, and eco-friendliness.
