BATON ROUGE, La., Dec. 18, 2025 — As Louisiana’s health care environment grows more complex, the state’s dentists are receiving support through the leadership of the Louisiana Dental Association (LDA), according to a recent HelloNation feature highlighting Executive Director Annette Droddy.
The article outlines how the LDA, founded in 1878 and representing nearly 1,900 dentists, continues to promote oral health, professional development and policy advocacy across the state. Since becoming executive director in 2020, Droddy has guided the association through public health challenges, regulatory changes and legislative initiatives affecting both patients and practitioners.
One of the most significant achievements cited is the passage of a state law during the 2024–2025 legislative session requiring dental insurers to disclose their dental loss ratio. The measure mandates transparency around how much of patients’ premiums are spent on care versus administrative costs. The law is seen as strengthening dentists’ negotiating position while helping patients better understand their coverage.
Beyond legislative efforts, the LDA provides continuing education and professional resources for dentists. Its New Orleans Dental Conference and Annual Session, along with specialized training in areas such as sedation and radiography, aim to help practitioners remain current in a changing field. The association also supports Medicaid providers and runs public health outreach programs to expand access to care across Louisiana.
The HelloNation article also highlights the LDA’s role in supporting dental education. When LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry required new clinical equipment, the association helped secure funding that led to the installation of new dental chairs and workstations in 2023, an investment intended to benefit future generations of dentists.
Droddy’s background in public affairs and her long-standing involvement with the LDA have helped shape its advocacy strategy.
Honored in 2022 with an honorary fellowship from the International College of Dentists, she is credited with translating policy goals into practical outcomes. Under her leadership, the association continues to play an active role in shaping the future of oral health care in Louisiana.
