Authorities in Kachchh have uncovered a major consumer health scam involving counterfeit toothpaste.

Gadodara police raided a factory in Rapar Taluka district and uncovered an illegal unit producing counterfeit Colgate toothpaste.

Following the raid, the company confirmed the products were not genuine. Reports indicate that the suspects used cheap, low-quality materials to manufacture the toothpaste and then sold it as genuine Colgate products, defrauding unsuspecting consumers.

Authorities seized goods worth approximately Rs 9.43 million, including multiple batches of counterfeit toothpaste, packaging materials, and production equipment.

The investigation involves four individuals: Rajesh Diyabhai Makwana, Suresh Maheshbhai Umat, Natwar Ajabhai Gohil, and Narpat (alias Naru Diyabhai Makwana), all of Naliyatimba in the Rapal taluka. The charges include fraud, copyright infringement, and endangering public health.

Officials stressed that the production of counterfeit goods poses a serious threat to consumer safety. Police are continuing their investigation, tracing the supply chain of counterfeit goods and identifying distribution points across Gujarat.
