IP Temp Cement from Shofu provides a reliable option that makes cleanup simple during placement and after provisionals are removed, saving time and improving the patient experience

When Dr. Hideo Yamamoto, Prosthodontist, Yamamoto & Associates PC in Newton Centre, MA, talks about Shofu’s IP Temp Cement, he keeps coming back to what he calls the product’s biggest advantage: how easy it is to clean up.
Today, he relies on the fluoride-releasing temporary luting cement for his implant cases and temporary restorations. Over the years, it’s proven to be a solid option that he said is “better than any other cement” he’s tried.
It’s easy to remove excess cement with water spray during placement, he said, and after a provisional is removed, it’s easy to clean cement from the surface of the abutment or inside the temporary crown.
To remove excess cement, all he has to do is spray the area with water right after he places it, he said. It sprays “very clean,” unlike other popular cements, which tend to stick to the provisional. With those cements, he has to wait for the material to set before he sprays, or cleanup will become more difficult.
“With IP Temp cement, I can spray before it sets,” he said, “so there’s no excess cement sticking on the surface of the provisional.”
The fact that he doesn’t have to wait for IP Temp Cement to dry saves time and makes the process easier. It’s very convenient.
The cement is also easy to clean after a provisional is removed, whether it’s inside a temporary crown or the surface of an abutment, Dr. Yamamoto said.
“When you take the provisional out, the surface of the abutment is very dry, so it’s very easy to clean,” he said. “Other cements stick to the surface of the tooth and take more time to clean up. The same is true of temporary crowns. With IP Temp Cement, it’s very easy to clean inside the provisional.”
The easy to remove cement also enhances the patient experience.
“There’s no excess cement remaining inside the sulcus, which helps prevent inflammation,” he said. “And of course it holds quite well. The temporary doesn’t come out, so the patient doesn’t have to come back to re-cement a temporary crown.”
A Reliable Option
Dr. Yamamoto first began using Shofu’s IP Temp Cement about 15 years ago. He knew the company well and was impressed with their product offerings, so it just made sense to give the temporary cement a try.
Over the years, the fluoride-releasing temporary luting cement has proven to be a solid option that he said is “better than any other cement” he’s tried. He loves how easy it is to clean up, and how much time it saves.
The cement is available in both powder and liquid form and allows for easy mixing and handling.
“You have to mix the powder and the liquid, which enables me to control the viscosity,” Dr. Yamamoto said. “I can make it soupy or harder. I prefer soupy because it’s easier to seat the restoration.”

Why You Should Give it a Try
IP Temp Cement’s surface is made of a pre-reacted glass filler, which offers acid neutralization and anti-plaque benefits—more patient perks. The cement also has an ideal thickness and is very smooth, Dr. Yamamoto said, so it doesn’t push up to the temporary crown. It’s very stable, so he’s always confident patients will leave his office with a provisional they can count on.
“It fits very well. If the cement is sticky, sometimes it’s difficult to stay on the tooth,” he said. “But IP Temp is very smooth and has a very good viscosity.”
And, of course, it’s easy to clean.
“Excess cement literally sprays clean very quickly,” he said. “Once it sets, it’s dry and hard, so after I remove the provisional from the abutment teeth with the instrument, it’s easy to clean the remaining cement balls inside the provisional and the abutment tooth. I strongly recommend other clinicians try this temporary cement.”
Bottom line: “It’s easy to clean, easy to use, easy to handle and after removal it’s very easy to clean the surface of the abutment or inside the temporary crown.” well. The temporary doesn’t come out, so the patient doesn’t have to come back to re-cement a temporary crown.”
