Risks of Viral ‘Veneer Techs’ Offering Affordable Smile Makeovers

With social media intensifying the pressure to have a perfect smile, many are opting for veneers from non-certified “veneer techs.”

“Anyone can complete a two-day course costing $2,000 to $3,000 and receive a certificate,” said a Texas dentist on the Texas Dental Association Board. “These certificates don’t qualify them for dental work, leaving doubts about their knowledge of sterilization, medication management, and techniques.”

Non-prep veneers, which don’t require drilling, are popular among these techs. However, even these procedures need a dentist’s expertise to ensure the underlying teeth are healthy.

“Dentists undergo extensive education and are the only ones licensed to take responsibility for patient care,” the dentist added.
