These last few months in the Erie clinic have honestly been a blast. Every day brings something new, and I’ve loved the chance to work with so many different types of patients. The transition to Erie has been exciting, challenging, and rewarding all at once, and I can feel myself growing more confident as both a clinician and a leader in my profession.
One of the highlights of this year was being named Florida Dental Student of the Year at the annual Florida Dental Convention. Standing alongside mentors and peers, I felt incredibly grateful for the recognition. For me, this award isn’t just about personal achievement; it reflects the support of my school, classmates, and everyone who has invested in my growth along the way.

Clinically, I’ve had experiences I never imagined I’d have as a student. I recently had the opportunity to experience hospital dentistry, treating a patient under sedation in the operating room. Being part of the surgical team opened my eyes to the importance of hospital-based care and the level of attention it provides for patients who need it most.

Creating a flexible partial denture for a special needs patient is a memory I’ll always cherish. Our first step was using SDF, or Silver Diamine Fluoride, to arrest the caries and prevent further decay. Guiding her through each step of the denture process reminded me that dentistry is more than science; it’s an art that shapes smiles and transforms lives.

The moment I saw her smile, and the joy radiating from her mom, reaffirmed why I chose this profession—to make a meaningful, lasting difference for the people I care for.

Alongside patient care, I’ve been preparing for the Integrated National Board Dental Examination (INBDE).

This exam is a major milestone because it tests how well we can apply medical knowledge, dental techniques, and patient care in real-world scenarios. For me, studying has been a great way to connect what I’ve learned in the classroom with the skills I use every day in the clinic. It makes the countless hours of studying worth it!
Outside of clinic and studying, my classmates and I have really become a team. We’re always there to help each other with procedures and cheer each other on, but we also make time to unwind. Whether it’s grabbing a bite together or spending an afternoon at the local arcade, these moments with friends have made this experience even more memorable.

I recently had the chance to attend the ASDA District 5 Leadership Retreat, where I heard from incredible speakers on topics ranging from business management to advocacy. The retreat was inspiring and a lot of fun, as our team took home gold in the annual Dental Olympics.

Looking ahead, I’m grateful for all the opportunities this year has provided. From clinical milestones to leadership experiences and academic challenges like the INBDE, each step has brought me closer to the dentist I aspire to be. Erie has pushed me to grow, and I’m excited to carry these lessons forward into residency and beyond!
