This year has been one of the most defining chapters of my dental journey. After years of preparing, studying, and practicing, I passed all my ADEX clinical exams and the INBDE. It was a moment filled with pride, relief, and gratitude. Winning a basketball title was unforgettable, but the pride I felt after passing my boards surpassed even that moment. I will never forget walking into my home and seeing the sign my family made for me.

Shortly after completing my boards, I experienced one of the most impactful clinical cases of my training. A teenage patient came to me deeply embarrassed and upset about the appearance of his anterior teeth. Teeth #6 through #11 were severely affected by caries, and he told me he hated his smile. When I handed him the mirror at the end, he started to cry.

His reaction reminded me that dentistry is not just about restoring teeth; it is about restoring confidence and improving quality of life.
Another meaningful experience this year was volunteering at the Mission of Mercy Clinic in Pittsburgh.

As part of the restorative team, I had the privilege of treating patients who otherwise could not afford care. At MOM, you are reminded that dentistry is not just a profession; it is a service, a responsibility, and a bridge to a healthier, more hopeful life.

One of my favorite moments of the year came from helping organize Super Smile Saturday at LECOM, our annual event providing free dental care for children. During the event, I had the chance to complete a little girl’s very first dental visit. Seeing her excitement and watching her fears melt away reminded me exactly why I love pediatric dentistry.

As I look ahead to residency and the journey beyond, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude and purpose. These past few months, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to travel around the country, interviewing at world-renowned hospitals and programs. With Match Day approaching, I’m filled with excitement and anticipation for the next step in my journey.

Every challenge, every patient, and every opportunity has helped me grow into the dentist I aspire to be. Even experiencing my first real winter snow has been a reminder to slow down and enjoy the small, unexpected joys along the way.
