Software Designed for Better Workflows

q&a tillmann steinbrecher, ,Q: Early on, what was the motivation behind creating a digital dental design software?, ,A: When Maik and I were young researchers at Fraunhofer, we were working with industry customers who were receiving R&D services related to dental CAD. But at that time, there was no truly competitive openarchitecture CAD software for digital dentistry. We felt a need to fill that gap. The most difficult aspect was creating a software product that was very robust. In development, it’s usually quite easy to create something that works well with several pre-selected demo cases. But every case is so unique, especially when it comes to digital dentistry, that we really needed the software to work with each possible scenario. We took on that challenge successfully and delivered a very stable product 10 years ago. Today, our customers still turn to exocad software for its robustness and stability., , ,Q: How much was ease of use a priority when developing exocad? , ,A: Our software has always been designed with the dentist in mind. For example, it offers a high level of automation and at the same time, the possibility to design the tooth exactly the way you imagine it. When you’re working on an esthetic case, you can achieve the exact esthetics you want. If you’re passionate about function and occlusion, you can design the way you feel is best for that patient. exocad is about freedom of choice in equipment because of the open platform. But at the same time, it’s also about freedom of design—using an easy and integrated workfl ow to transform what’s in your mind into a physical product., , ,Q: How does your latest release, ChairsideCAD 3.0 Galway, improve the workflow?, ,A: ChairsideCAD 3.0 Galway is optimized to reduce the design time for clinicians with further automation. We’ve introduced Instant Anatomic Morphing technology, so the anatomy of the teeth automatically adjusts in real time for dynamic occlusion. This enables the clinician to come up with the exact design and shape they want with minimal time and effort. It’s another example of our software creating smooth and efficient workflows., , ,Q: Can you give us a hint about what might be on the horizon for exocad? , ,A: One thing that’s very exciting to us is automation. With every software release, we aim to reduce the time it takes for the dental team to get the same high-quality outcomes. This is an exciting time to be in dentistry with all the innovations and cutting-edge technologies, and our ultimate goal is to make complex technology easy to use and accessible to every dentist., ,
