Powered by ion-releasing Giomer Technology, Shofu’s bioactive Beautifil composites create long-lasting, esthetic restorations that help prevent recurrent decay

Bioactivity is more than a buzzword—it’s changing restorative dentistry. Beyond repairing caries, bioactive materials strengthen enamel, guard against future decay, and play a vital role in caring for our growing aging population.
“As we live longer, we’re seeing a rise in geriatric dentistry, and it’s often difficult for older patients to keep their teeth clean,” explained Tony Tomaro, DDS. To meet the needs of these and other at-risk patients, he turns to Beautifil composites.
Say Goodbye to Secondary Decay
Thanks to Shofu’s Giomer Technology, Beautifil composites deliver remarkable bioactive and therapeutic benefits, resulting in strong, esthetic restorations that minimize secondary decay. Giomer restoratives provide a sustained release and recharge of 6 beneficial ions: fluoride, strontium, sodium, aluminum, silicate, and borate.
“With the release of these ions, Giomer Technology increases the pH of the oral environment, inhibiting plaque, reducing acidity, and deterring recurrent decay,” Dr. Tomaro explained. Combined with the ease with which they can be polished to a smooth, glossy surface, Giomer composites are perfect for patients who have difficulty brushing or are high caries risk.
Easy Workflows, Exceptional Results
Dr. Tomaro uses a variety of bioactive Giomer restoratives to improve his workflow and achieve excellent results. His regular go-to products include Beautifil Flow Plus X, a nanohybrid flowable available in 2 versatile viscosities.
“The Zero Flow (F..)viscosity is ideal for stacking, such as building up an incisal edge,” Dr. Tomaro said. “The Low Flow (F..)viscosity can be used to line a cervical box when doing a Class II or interproximal filling.” Another benefit of the Low Flow material is that it’s self-leveling, which makes handling easier and ensures better adaptation.
When working with challenging margin situations, Dr. Tomaro prefers either the packable Beautifil II, which offers smooth handling, or Beautifil II LS, which provides fi rm handling. “These materials are particularly advantageous when dealing with deep subgingival margins,” he explained.
Beyond bioactive benefits, the unique filler structure found in Giomer materials imparts restorations with outstanding strength and wear resistance.
“Between the VITA shades and chameleon effect, Beautifil composites adopt the color of surrounding tooth structure very nicely, giving restorations true-to-life esthetics,” Dr. Tomaro affirmed.
Do More Than Restore
As Dr. Tomaro noted, Shofu is known for products that provide exceptional value and performance, and its Giomer restoratives are no different.
“Beautifil materials are very easy to work with, offer excellent adaptation, and can be quickly polished to a beautiful shine,” he said. “With Giomer Technology, not only can we create a great filling but also an environment that helps us fight recurrent decay.”
