Agartala, December 24, 2025 — Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday said sustained improvements in healthcare services, including dental care and forensic odontology, have sharply reduced the number of patients travelling outside the state for treatment.
Speaking at a healthcare event in Agartala, Dr. Saha said the government has strengthened medical infrastructure and introduced an Inter-Departmental Referral System (IDRS) to ensure smoother coordination and faster patient care across departments.
“These reforms are delivering results,” said Dr. Saha, who also holds the health portfolio. “Residents now have greater confidence in the state’s healthcare system, reducing the need to seek treatment elsewhere.”
He highlighted the expanding role of forensic odontology, a specialised branch of dentistry that uses dental records for identification in criminal investigations and disaster victim cases, calling it a critical scientific support for police and judicial authorities.
To further ease patient pressure, the government has expanded hospital capacity. Bed strength at Government GB Pant Hospital has been doubled, with plans to add 100 more beds to meet growing inpatient demand.
Dr. Saha also noted that five kidney transplant surgeries have been successfully performed for Tripura residents with support from a private hospital in neighbouring Manipur.
Senior officials present included Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, National Health Mission Director Dr. Saju Wahid, and Director of Health Services Dr. Debashree Debbarma.
Reiterating the government’s “humane approach” to healthcare reform, the Chief Minister said Tripura’s efforts align with the national goal of building a stronger and healthier India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
