One clinician shares his experience with an innovative dental solution that brings together implant, abutment, tooling, planning, and local clinical support

Every dental practice and every lab has their own unique workflow. They’ve developed protocols and procedures that best fit their clinical specialty, patient and customer base, and technologies. A manufacturer who understands that develops adaptable products and solutions that can be integrated into those practices and labs seamlessly.
Implant Direct heard the call for a universal full-arch system and delivered with DIRECTarch, which offers a unviersal prosthesis connection multi-unit abutment. On the restorative side, the Simply Iconic SimplePlatform is used to manage restorative component inventory, with a matching cover screw and healing collar included in the implant vial for enhanced surgical simplicity.
JB White, DDS, who has a general practice in Las Vegas and lectures around the world on diagnosis and treatment planning, surgical and restorative implant placement, occlusion, esthetics, and photography, performs primarily large cases that involve implants. “I do a lot of cosmetics, a lot of reconstructions, and a lot of implants,” he said.
Dr. White has been working with Implant Direct for many years and enjoyed using their proprietary multi-unit abutment. He’s now incorporated DIRECTarch into his workflow. “Implant Direct created a system that’s designed to be much more user-friendly,” explained Dr. White. “They came out with a lot more parts and pieces with different options and a universal platform for a full digital workflow, which is what we all want to do now in terms of intraoral scanning.”
Keep It Simple
Implant Direct describes their philosophy as one of “practical innovation.” DIRECTarch adheres to that philosophy by recognizing the need many clinicians have to simplify what can sometimes be quite complex—implant treatment. For example, the universal multi-unit abutment can be used with any workflow.

“You have the option of placing the scan bodies on the multi-unit abutment for intraoral scanning,” explained Dr. White. “But because not all dentists have an intraoral scanner, you also have the option of taking a traditional impression and then on the lab side, they can scan it in. Most labs have a desktop scanner for converting from the analog to the digital world.”
Other practical innovations within the DIRECTarch solution include a gold anodized final cylinder that blends naturally with both gingiva and restorative materials. Its angulated screw channel provides flexibility both surgically and restoratively, while also improving prosthesis retention compared to machined abutment surfaces.
Keep Patients Satisfied
The Simply Iconic implant offers many features to ensure patients leave your practice happy with the final outcome. Dr. White describes the implant as having the same body as the Legacy2 implant, which he used for 15 years, but with a conical connection rather than an internal hex.
“Surgically, it’s the same process, but the conical connection tends to be more stable if you place the implant subcrestal,” explained Dr. White. “I like the freedom of that.”
