Vyne Dental has announced that it has officially established an API integration partnership with Open Dental Software, an open source dental practice management system.
Through this agreement, Vyne Dental will work with the Open Dental team to explore future feature upgrades and promote deeper system integration using APIs supported by Open Dental.
The partnership aims to bring greater flexibility to dental practices and optimize cross-system access to clinical and financial data.
Vyne Dental said that this integration is an important part of its overall strategy, with the goal of reducing the administrative burden on practices, supporting multiple clearinghouse options, and avoiding the limitations of vendor lock-in.
“Our partnership with Open Dental is a reflection of our vision to create an open, vendor-neutral dental ecosystem,” said Steve Roberts, CEO of Vyne Dental.
Our goal is to make dental data as accessible, secure, and portable as it is in healthcare, helping practices gain a complete view of their patients’ treatment histories, simplifying claims, and reducing administrative costs while increasing patient transparency and empowerment.”
With recent disruptions to healthcare data services, such as the 2024 Change Healthcare outage, the importance of data interoperability has become even more apparent.
This integration not only helps practices comply with regulations such as the 21st Century Cures Act and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), ensuring that patients have timely and secure access to their health information, but also simplifies workflows for practices using the Open Dental system, speeds up claims, and seamlessly connects to other tools and services without expensive custom development.
“The industry has a skewed understanding of interoperability in dentistry,” said Paul Bernard, Chief Product Officer at Vyne Dental. “What’s critical is creating a diverse ecosystem that is not tied to a single exchange platform, giving practices the freedom to choose the tools that best suit their needs and those of their patients. This is where our agreement with Open Dental shines and is a critical step in addressing real challenges in the industry.”
The announcement comes ahead of the June 25th event “Enhancing Interoperability in Dentistry” in Washington, D.C. The event brought together leaders in dentistry and medical technology to discuss the challenges facing health data exchange today.
Speakers included Vyne Dental CEO Steve Roberts, Chief Product Officer Paul Bernard, Chief Revenue Officer Nick Rodich, and Dr. Bryan Laskin, Dental Digital Strategy Advisor.
“Open data is not only a regulatory requirement, it is a core strategy for modern dental care. The standards and technology are there, the key is collaboration, and this agreement shows how vendors are working together to create a future ecosystem that is secure, transparent, and empowering for patients,” said Dr. Laskin.
