After graduating from the Boston University Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation with a degree in Human Physiology in 2012, Dr. McClintock completed her Doctorate in Dental Surgery at the State University of New York at Buffalo. After general practice residencies at both Jacobi Medical Center and Montefiore Medical Center in New York, Dr. McClintock joined a private practice. She later completed a 2-year cosmetic dentistry residency through the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry with Dr. Adamo Notarantonio. She practices in Williamsburg, Va. |

Dr. Devin McClintock saw the benefits of Core-Flo DC and Core-Flo DC Lite fi rsthand during an AACD residency program and continues to use the products in her practice today. She turns to both for reliable core buildups, which she uses in place of posts for endodontically treated teeth whenever possible. Here, she discusses her favorite characteristics of Core-Flo DC Lite.
I’m a big fan of consistency when it comes to extruding material. BISCO’s Core-Flo DC and Core-Flo DC Lite offer superior handling, striking that delicate balance of being flowable but not too runny. In particular, I appreciate the lower viscosity of Core-Flo DC Lite. I like to use it primarily when I’m building against a matrix band in deep-margin elevation cases or when I’m sealing deep canals in endodontically treated teeth.
Because the material is less viscous, I know it will level against the matrix and reduce air bubbles. When I finalize the crown prep and lift up the margin, that transition from buildup material to the tooth has a nice, contoured anatomy. I don’t have to worry about food getting caught down there or bacteria causing a problem.
Other core buildup materials I’ve used have either been too thick and don’t provide a nice flow or they are too runny and end up everywhere, so you wind up wasting a lot of material. That’s not a problem with either Core-Flo DC or Core-Flo DC Lite.
Easy DeliveryI’ve worked with other systems where you have to mix two materials together and then put the mixture into a compula. That takes too much time. The CoreFlo DC Lite delivery system saves you time and the material is easy to dispense using the automix dual-syringe.
Complete ControlWhen I’m placing the material, I have the freedom to stack and let it stick in place, knowing it won’t move or slump. I can mold and shape it for the first few seconds, hit it with the curing light, leave for 5 minutes, and it won’t do anything I don’t want it to do. I have complete control.
Other BenefitsCore-Flo DC Lite’s handling is one of the best on the market. Additionally, it cuts the closest to natural tooth structure, allowing the transition from tooth to buildup to be virtually indistinguishable. I also like that it’s a dual-cure core material—if I’m dealing with endodontically treated teeth, I want a light and a chemical cure to ensure the material will be fully polymerized and set to achieve maximum strength.
Color is also huge for me and can make a big difference, especially if you’re working with porcelain. Having something that’s similar to natural dentition vs something that is gray or darker provides a better result.
Reliable OutcomesSince I’ve been using CoreFlo DC and Core-Flo DC Lite, I haven’t had any issues with my buildups, and to me that is worth its weight in gold. I love the consistency and knowing the material will behave the same way each time. In my opinion, it is the ideal core buildup material
