WHY I USE…Visalys Core and Visalys Flow

Stable core buildups, even without matrices, and a universal nanohybrid filling composite

RYAN M. WALSH, DDS, MS

Dr. Walsh attended the University of Iowa, where he completed his undergraduate degree in biology and also earned his dental degree. He relocated to Texas to continue his education at Texas A&M College of Dentistry, where he received his specialty Certificate in Endodontics and Master’s of Science in Oral Biology. He works with various dental manufacturers, including Kettenbach Dental.

Ryan M. Walsh, DDS, MS, a board-certified endodontist who practices in Keller, TX, explains how he uses a combination of 2 products from Kettenbach Dental to reliably achieve strong core buildups and long-lasting, esthetic restorations. He’s found Visalys Core to be ideal for even the most challenging core procedures, while Visalys Flow delivers a much-desired chameleon effect on the restorative end.

My endodontic practice has been using Visalys Core and Visalys Flow for the past few years. We were unhappy with our previous core material, so I started exploring alternatives and discovered Visalys Core, which is designed for difficult and freehand core buildups, as well as root post cementation. Shortly after, our office also began using Visalys Flow, a flowable and universal nanohybrid filling composite. Together, these materials are the perfect fi t for our practice.

Ideal for Endo-Resto Treatment

It’s so frustrating to place a buildup, only to take the postop radiographs and see a bunch of Swiss cheese-like bubbles in your new core. Thankfully, Visalys Core virtually eliminates this problem—it flows well but isn’t runny, and it dispenses from the syringe with no air bubbles. When it comes to filling endodontic accesses, Visalys Flow is an optimal choice for 2 reasons. First, it’s opaque. Second, it provides a chameleon effect, meaning it blends so well with the surrounding ceramic or zirconia that it’s almost impossible to see the margin of the access through the crown.

The combination of Visalys Core and Visalys Flow is ideal for nearly all my endo-resto needs. Because of its viscosity, I use Visalys Core for all my buildups prior to the tooth receiving a crown. This material provides excellent marginal adaptation, and I can use it internally for the base of my endodontic access (directly over the gutta percha). Once I get about 3 mm from the cavosurface margin, I switch to Visalys Flow to provide a long-lasting esthetic restoration within the full-coverage crown. I find that Visalys Core also works wonderfully as a post-and-core material.

Restore with Confidence

Knowing that I can rely on my restorative materials gives me the confidence to provide excellent resto-rations for my patients and referring dentists. Visalys Core has an ideal viscosity, and both products are sufficiently radiopaque to discern them from surrounding lithium disilicate and ceramic restorations.

I would absolutely recommend Visalys Core and Visalys Flow to my colleagues, both endodontists and restorative dentists. Since I started working with Visalys products, they’ve become popular with my office partners and are now the primary core materials used in our multidoctor endodontic practice. I tried more than a handful of leading competitor products before deciding on Kettenbach’s composites, and I’ve yet to be disappointed with what these materials help me achieve.
