In a heartening effort to promote oral health and community well-being, Wilson Martino Dental has launched a free dental care program for children in Doddridge County, West Virginia. This initiative, aimed at supporting families and improving access to essential healthcare, is being celebrated as a significant step in addressing the dental health disparities faced by children in rural areas.
The program, which began this summer, offers a range of preventive and basic dental services at no cost to families. These include cleanings, exams, fluoride treatments, sealants, and, when necessary, basic restorative procedures such as fillings.
Wilson Martino Dental’s team of licensed dentists and hygienists are volunteering their time and skills to ensure that every eligible child receives the quality care they deserve.
Dr. Steven Wilson, co-founder of Wilson Martino Dental, emphasized the importance of early dental care in preventing long-term oral health issues. “Dental problems are among the most common chronic conditions in children,” he stated.
“Left untreated, they can lead to pain, infection, missed school days, and even difficulty eating and speaking. Our goal is to eliminate these barriers by ensuring that all kids—regardless of their family’s financial situation—get the care they need.”
According to the American Dental Association, rural counties like Doddridge often face shortages of dental professionals, and many families lack access to affordable care. This makes Wilson Martino Dental’s initiative all the more impactful. The clinic has partnered with local schools and community organizations to raise awareness and schedule appointments, ensuring maximum outreach.
Parents and caregivers have responded with deep appreciation. Lisa Bennett, a mother of three from West Union, shared her experience: “We don’t have dental insurance, and costs can really add up. This program was a blessing. My kids got their teeth cleaned and checked, and it didn’t cost a dime.”
Wilson Martino Dental plans to continue this community initiative throughout the school year and encourages families to reach out early for appointments, as demand is expected to grow.
