Wisconsin Launches First Registered Apprenticeship Program to Boost Oral Health Workforce

The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) has officially launched the state’s first registered apprenticeship program for dental assistants.

The 15-month program, designed to address the healthcare workforce shortage, includes 592 hours of paid classroom training and 2,008 hours of practical work experience.

According to DWD, apprentices will gain hands-on experience assisting in dental procedures, maintaining medical records, preparing equipment, and supporting patient care.

Two apprentices have already signed on and will participate in the program through the program’s partner, Chippewa Valley Technical College, Eau Claire.

The apprenticeship program is funded by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services’ Oral Health Workforce Pathways Program.
