Workman School of Dental Medicine Unveils HPU Health’s Flagship Dental Facility in High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C., July 30, 2025 — High Point University’s Workman School of Dental Medicine officially opened HPU Health’s flagship dental clinic with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 25, marking a major step forward in the university’s health care expansion.

The new facility, HPU Health Plaza Dental, is owned and operated by HPU. It will serve both as a treatment center for local patients and as a hands-on training site for dental students. Under the supervision of three seasoned dentists, students will gain practical experience in a modern clinical environment. Located at 231 Plaza Lane, Suite 101, just a few miles from the university, the clinic features advanced technologies including 3D scanners, 3D printing, and an electronic health record system.

HPU Health Plaza Dental is a key part of HPU Health LLC, a nonprofit academic network that manages dental clinics across North Carolina. The network currently includes 12 locations, with additional sites planned for later this year. Clinics are located in cities such as Greensboro, Durham, and Chapel Hill, reflecting the dental school’s mission to deliver affordable care while training future professionals.

“This dental practice is here for the people of High Point,” said Dr. Muhammad Ali Shazib, dean of the Workman School of Dental Medicine. “With this flagship location, we’re showcasing the patient experience and highlighting HPU Health’s commitment to care and education. It’s an important part of our journey in expanding health care access.”

Dental students begin their clinical journey at HPU Health sites just five weeks into their first year. Early on, they work in administrative and support roles to understand the business side of health care. By their second year, they begin delivering basic hygiene and preventive care. During their third and fourth years, students treat patients under the close supervision of HPU Health faculty.

The dental school welcomed its first class in the fall of 2024. A second class of 60 students is set to begin on August 4.

“HPU Health Plaza Dental reinforces our role as High Point’s university,” said HPU President Dr. Nido Qubein. “This facility allows our students to give back to the community while gaining real-world experience. As HPU Health grows across North Carolina, it will continue to provide quality care and innovative learning opportunities for our students and neighbors.”
